MEDICAL PROFILE
- Graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1991
- Obtained Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom)
- Awarded the Ministry of Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Scholarship to trainat Dana Farber Cancer Institute, (Teaching Affiliates of Harvard Medical School), Boston USA 2000-2001.,
- He was the leading oncologist of the Breast Cancer Workgroup (2002) for National Cancer Centre and Sing health cluster and was involved in the cluster Breast Cancer Health Management
Plan. He was program leader for the Public Cancer Education with Singhealth Cancer Service Development Line
- In clinical patient care, he was awarded the National Excellent Service Award (EXSA) in 2005.
- He established the Cancer Genetics Service in National Cancer Centre and pioneered the first comprehensive study of cancer genetic testing for BRCA 1 and BRCA2 genes in an Asian population. In 2003, he was commissioned to write a paper for the National Bioethics Advisory Committee as part of the framework to develop ethical, legal and social issues in genetic testing.
- He was involved in international trials of chemotherapy drugs currently in active use and newer targeted therapy drugs such as herceptin, lapatinib and sunitinib.
- Research work by Dr Ang has been published in both local and international journals including
Journal of Clinical Oncology, Chest, Lancet Oncology, Seminars in Oncology, Cancer
Epidemiology Biomarker & Prevention, Clinical Cancer Research, Clinical Genetics,
Pharmacogenomics and Respiratory Medicine. He was also the editor and main author of a book
on breast cancer, "Illustrative Cases in Breast Cancer" (2006). He has also been a reviewer for
other medical journals.
- With respect to public service, he was National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2005 cochairman,
involving the Singhealth and NHG cluster hospitals, Breast Cancer Foundation and
Singapore Cancer Society. He has conducted lectures for University undergraduates,
postgraduate doctors training in medical oncology, training nurses and public forums by the
Breast Cancer Foundation and the Singapore Cancer Society. He had been one of the speakers
for the first Singapore Medical Oncology Review Course (2007) and the first regional Asian
Oncology Summit, 2009 involving local and regional oncology doctors.
Oncocare Cancer Centre provides multidisciplinary consultations for cancer risk assessment,
diagnosis, treatment and cancer management.
- We provide chemotherapy for cancer treatment. These include cytotoxic agents, hormonal agents
and the newer biologic targeted therapies.
- We also run clinical trials, cancer awareness and screening programmes, with genetics testing.

- Graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987.
- Obtained Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and Membership of the Royal

- Received specialist training in Medical Oncology and subsequently did a fellowship
under the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) Scholarship at Hollings
Cancer Centre, Medical University of South Carolina, USA. Attained Specialist
Accreditation for Medical Oncology.
- She served as Senior Consultant in the Dept of Medical Oncology, National Cancer
Centre from 2003-2008, and had contributed to training of medical undergraduates,
postgraduate doctors training for Internal Medicine and Oncology, nurses.
- She had given many lectures locally and abroad, to the medical community and also
in public forums.
She was involved in multicentre trials for various tumour types, which had evaluated
many of the chemotherapy drugs and targeted agents currently in active use. She
had published widely, with first author papers in international journals including
Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer, Chest, Journal of Thoracic Oncology.
- She had served in oncology societies, including serving as Honorary Secretary of
Singapore Society of Oncology (2000-2001) and sitting on the Bylaws Committee of
International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) (2006-2007).

DR KARMEN WONG

Dr Karmen Wong is regarded as one of Asia’s foremost oncologists with close to 20 years of clinical practice. She received her oncology training in the National University Hospital, National Cancer Centre, Singapore and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) under the HMDP scholarship.
She pioneered the first multi-disciplinary breast cancer treatment in Singapore some 15 years ago. This involved establishing a platform for treatment in other cancers with different disciplines of doctors. Dr Wong also initiated the bone marrow transplant programme in solid tumour in Singapore in 1997. She spearheaded the multi-disciplinary tumour board and Breast Cancer Clinic in Singapore General Hospital.
Wong presented the 1st Asian study in attitudes of cancer treatment among Asian patients in the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 1999. She has also written peer review articles and published chapters in textbooks.
She is active in promoting cancer awareness through public lectures as well as serves as a committee member in the Breast Cancer Foundation of Singapore. She has spearheaded a prayer ministry for patients called "HIS Living Room" in Gleneagles Hospital and engaged regularly in medical missions in the region.

- In the field of research, she completed her participation in a multi-center trial using Herceptin and chemotherapy in metastatic breast cancer and is currently participating in the ongoing Lapatinib study in breast cancer.
